Hickory tree 3-6 inches (2 years old!)

Hickories are on their way north. Slow to get established and start producing nuts (2-4 years of taproot growth and 15-20 years for nut production). Hickories are beautiful landscape or forest trees with broad lush foliage and exfoliating bark. The trees produce flavorful nuts and the sap was reportedly used for making sugar. The wood is highly valued for its strength and durability and also produces the highest BTU's per cord.

Don't be dismayed by the small size of the trees today! They are building deep taproots. Plant them and give them a stake so they don't get lost. Once the tap root is established they are rapid growers and long lived beautiful trees.
