Plant type

One of a few Asian Pears we are trialing on our farm. Borderline cold hardy here in Plainfield and colder locations but pretty reliable in The Champlain Valley and further south. With very little pest and disease pressure, fruit quality and flavor on the asian pears tends to be outstanding and to our mind, worth the risk.

Shinko develops a golden russet color ripening later, into mid or even late October. Very sweet and juicy fruit stores well.

As for most Asian pears, aggressive fruit thinning will improve fruit size and flavor.

Grafted on Betulaefolia Rootstock.

POLLINATION: Many Asian pears are self fruitful but fruit set and size will be improved by planting with another different variety of Asian pear or European pear.
