Heartnut 3 ft

Heartnut (Juglans ailantifolia) is a Japanese species of walnut with large and easy to crack out nuts. Plants are very vigorous but only moderately cold hardy. New growth on younger plants is likely to suffer winter damage. We have beefy 2 year old plants that have suffered tip damage and grown multi-stemmed. They are worth experimenting with but not a sure thing in Northern Vermont.
