Sugar Maple

Our State Tree! Sugar maple has grown in our forests for close to 10,000 years. First discovered for its sweet sap by squirrels and then by the human people who noticed, maple sugaring brings some of the first sweet smiles of spring. Though it’s native habitat is the forest, when grown in the open the sugar maple takes on a gracious, stately shape and makes a long-lived climbing-tree for wildlife and kiddos alike.
